The Table Series draws its subjects from the quiet, familiar objects of everyday life — the things that share our meals, our kitchens, our dining tables.
This work imagines a moment of breathtaking impossibility: a vintage sardine tin, worn and familiar, cracked open to reveal not fish — but the open sea. From within its modest walls, a humpback whale surges skyward, vast and magnificent, carrying with it the full poetry of the deep.

Pull back the tab. The world inside has no ceiling.
The humpback whale — known for its gravity-defying leaps and its haunting, melodic song — is the ocean’s great poet. Here, that poet breaks free from the smallest of containers, and the contrast could not be more electric: the infinite, compressed into the mundane, then released all at once.
Through his signature technique, Semi 3D Yoshikazu Artworks, KAJIKAWA builds the whale’s patterned skin layer by layer — each marking rendered in rich, tactile relief until the creature seems to move. Step to the side, and the whale rises dramatically from the surface, the full force of its emergence impossible to ignore.
This is a work about scale, and about wonder — the ocean that lives, quietly and impossibly, inside a can.
